Two remanded in prison custody for assaulting FRSC officials

The zone 10 Commanding Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Assistant Corps Marshal Kayode Olagunju, has said that a motorcycle rider named Yahaya Yakubu and a passerby Yusha’u Maishanu assaulted an FRSC patrol team from Argungu Unit Command in Kebbi State.

A statement by by the Zonal Public Education Officer, Aliyu Maaji Friday said the incident occurred on 18th July,2019, while resisting arrest.

According to Olagunju, both were charged to court and reminded in Prison Custody untill 24th July, 2019.

The duo are facing five count charges of Criminal Force and Assaults; Obstruction Public Servant in discharge of duties; Intentional Insult; Resistance of Arrest and mischief before Magistrate Musa Alieru of Argungu Magisterial Division, Kebbi State.

Olagunju warned vehicle operators and other members of the public in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states that the command would not hesitate to prosecute anyone that assaults any of the Corps personnel in the course of performing their legal duties.

“Such violent offenders and those resisting arrests stand the risk of imprisonment.”

He also assured the public that any marshal or officer of the Corps that violate the rights of any member of the public would be dealt with in accordance with extant rules and regulations.
