A cultural Group, known as Okun Development Association (ODA), on Friday warned detractors against distracting the visionary Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), Prof Olayemi Akinwumi.

Prof Mohammed Suleiman, Chairman of the group, sounded the warning during a press Conference held in Lokoja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Group is a Chapter of the ODA at the University.

“Akunwumi has successfully brought peace to Federal University, Lokoja, and industrial harmony due to his purposeful leadership qualities displayed devoid of tribal or religious sentiments.

“If these laudable achievements of the VC is what is annoying some people they should have a rethink because he (Akunwumi) means well for the students and staff of FUL.

“Although we aren’t against anyone or group seeking for any legitimate redress, we won’t tolerate the pull you down syndrome being displayed recently by some individuals and groups,” the chairman declared.

Suleiman warned, “those who are fond of publishing falsehood against the person and character of Akinwumi should desist forthwith, because we will no longer tolerate any such act of character assassination on our son.”

He said that the Vice Chancellor, since assumption of office on Feb. 15, 2021, has made unrelenting efforts to put the institution on the right paths of development.

Describing the detractors as “enemies of progress”, Suleiman noted that the negative narration on Akinwumi is aimed at distracting him from achieving his vision for the university.

According to him, just within one year in office, “the workaholic Vice Chancellor has established two major faculties; the faculty of medical sciences and faculty of engineering.” (NAN)
