The Joint Consultative Forum (JCF) of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Polytechnic of Sokoto State and College of Legal and Islamic Studies has threatened Sokoto state government that the academic staff of these institutions would resume strike if by December 18, 2014 it fails to implement CONPCASS.

In a release signed by Secretary of the Forum, Mansur Muhammad Aliyu ,a copy of which was  made available to Newsdiaryonline on Saturday, JCF reminded the state government of the strike action embarked upon in June 2013 by the Academic Staff of the Tertiary Institutions but recalled because the government met up with part of the demands.

“The Academic Staff of the Tertiary Institutions in the state embarked on an industrial action in June 2013 as a result of non-implementation of the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Migration Policy. Payment of 2012/2013 Leave grant for Academic staff and 65 years as retirement age for Academic staff,” the release read in parts.

While commending the state government for responding to two demands on leave grant and retirement age,JCF noted that other demands have not been met in spite of “several reminders and series of meetings with government and security agencies.

“The Joint Consultative Forum (JCF) hereby resolves as follows: That the suspended industrial action will resume; That a notice of 14 working days is hereby issued as an ultimatum; that the notice takes effect from 1st December 2014 and ends on 18th December 2014,” the release continued.

The JCF therefore stated that if by December 18 government failed to meet up with their demands, “the suspended industrial action will resume by 12am on 19th December 2014.”
