The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and former Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako on Thursday condoled with the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko over the death of second republic President Shehu Shagari.
A statement by the Special Assistant to the Senator on Media and Publicity, Bashir Mani Thursday said the trio described the late Shagari as a core patriot, an epitome of piety and humility.
“The deceased was a democratic institution builder, a bridge builder, as well as a nationalist who had brought Sokoto State to height of recognition, nationally and internationally.
“He was a Father to Nigeria and Nigerians and was a friend to many of our grand fathers,” Tinubu said.
Governor Ganduje said that, the high powered delegation from Kano State was in Sokoto for the condolence because, “we hold the late Shagari in high esteem.
“He was a great leader who worked assiduously for the unity, peace and socioeconomic prosperity of Nigeria.”
On his part, Nyako described Shagari’s death as a great national loss, adding that Nigerians were consoled with the lasting legacies the former President left behind.
Responding, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko commended them for the visit and averred that the late Shagari was an iconic leader whose death has created a wide gap, too difficult to fill.
