The Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, Tuesday affirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was fundamental to the entrenchment of true democracy in Nigeria.Akinjide, who made this known while welcoming the executive members of the Osun State Chapter of the PDP to her office, said the PDP was the only party where internal democracy currently obtained.
She said, “PDP is the only party that accommodates different views and not controlled by a single person. We are working on internal democracy where people emerge through grassroots election and not hand-picked.
“The PDP is entrenching true democracy in the country. We have a new national executive committee led by a chairman that is recognised world-wide and respected. Politics is a noble call to serve the people and be honourable as well as transparent.”
The minister stated that the goal of the PDP in the South West was to win back all the states in the region.
“South West is one of the major parts of Nigeria outside the federal level. This is not in the interest of the region. The South West needs to be inside and part of the federal level in order to be part of the decision making,” she added.
The leader of the delegation and Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Jide Adeniji, commended the minister for the giant strides being made in the transformation of the FCT.
He also applauded the vital role being played by the minister to bring about genuine reconciliation in the PDP in the region.
He assured that the party was going to return to the mainstay of politics in the South West region going by the genuine reconciliation in the region.
