The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Alhaji Usman Saidu Nasamu Dakingari as the winner of yesterday’s governorship rerun poll.
The Chief Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Lawal Bilbis disclosed that the former governor of the state, Dakingari polled 875,492 votes, defeating the governorship candidates of the Congress of Progressive Change (CPC), Mr. Abubakar Abubakar with 17,918 votes.
He added that the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Kabir Tanimu, scored 4,656 votes to clinch third position, while Suleiman Argungu of the All Nigeria Peoples
Party (ANPP) came fourth with 2,528 votes.
It would be recalled that the former governor of the state was sacked by the Supreme Court and therefore ordered the INEC to conduct another election in the state within 90 days.
The governorship candidate of CPC, Alhaji Abubakar Mallam, who could have posed a major threat to Dakingari had earlier decamped to PDP recently along with former governor of the state, Alhaji Adamu Aliero.
Though CPC later threatened to boycott the rerun election and said the party lacks credibility in INEC to conduct a free and fair election in the state.
