The governorship election in Ondo State slated for October this year has been generating a lot of concerns due to the high level of political thuggery and clashes between party faithful in the State. The Action Congress of Nigeri,a ACN has  continued to call for restraint as billboards belonging to some of the governorship aspirants from the party are being defaced in the State on a daily basis. In a release last week, the party accused the ruling Labour Party as culprits for these nefarious activities.

In a swift reaction, the Labour Party vehemently denied the accusations stating that the reverse is the case. However, just as the two parties are trading blames on one another, some Chieftains of the Labour Party cross carpeted to the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, at Odigbo Local Government council penultimate week. Mr. Adetokunbo Oyadele and Akeem Saka, both from Oniparaga Ward in Odigbo local government area of Ondo State were embraced by High Chief Ijinija Tope, the CPC Chairman in the local council as other members of the party joyfully welcomed them to their fold last week.

Speaking at the occasion, Adetokunbo said they have decided to pitch their tent with the Congress for Progressive Change due to the honesty and integrity of their leaders. He said that, the incumbent governor, Olusegun Mimiko has shown a high level of maladroitness  in the management of the State. “The governor has exhibited to our people that it was a mistake that they voted for him about four years ago. He is bereft of any ideas to move the economy forward. The high level of corruption that pervades every department of his administration is gargantuan; hence, we cannot continue to align ourselves with such regime”.

Also addressing the new members, a CPC Leader in the State, Hon. Durojaye Bisi Williams said that there is room for everybody in the State to join the integrity party, the CPC and thanked them for their boldness to switch camp even at a time they face serious danger from the claws of those who has turned the State to their personal property. Other Chieftains of the Congress for Progressive Change present at the occasion were Popoola Clement, Fisayo Williams,  Lumowo Jimi; Vice Chairman, Ondo Senatorial District; and Adeusi Olusoji among others.
