After an extra –ordinary meeting of the Organization of African Trade Union Unity , OATUU in Ghana, a decision was taken to suspend Comrade Owei Lakemfa as secretary-General of the body. “The Extra-ordinary Executive meeting has made a unanimous decision to immediately suspend Comrade Owei Lakemfa as OATUU Secretary-General ,pending comprehensive investigations and refering the same to the OATUU General Council for the final decision as per the requirement of OATUU’s Constitution,”a communiqué at the end of the meeting said .
“OAUTUU Extra-ordinary Committee met on 29th November 2014 at Mensvic Hotel,Accra Ghana.The meeting was attended by 12 members of the 14 members of the Executive Committee and 3 Advisers.The Secretary-General of Ghana Trades Union Congress,Brother Kofi Asamoah ,was also in attendance.
“The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss OATUU Secretariat unending challenges which have been affecting the smooth running of the secretariat and overall organizatio activities for the last two years.
“The Executive noted after listening to all secretariat officials that the SecertarY-General,Comrade Owei Lakemfa has been the centre of many problems especially the violation of OATUU’s Constitution,mismanagement,lack of providing leadership at the Secretariat,lack of respect for OATUU organs and structures and their decisions irrespective of several advisory meetings on tyhe same.
“It is against this backdrop that the Extra-ordinary Executive meeting has made a unanimous decision to immediately suspend Comrade Owei Lakemfa as OATUU Secretary-General ,pending comprehensive investigations and refering the same to the OATUU General Council for the final decision as per the requirement of OATUU’s Constitution.
“The Executive Committee has,therefore,proposed Comrade Arezki Mezhoud to act in the position of Secretary-General.”
