The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on Thursday said that it had arrested 18 persons in Osun for human trafficking between June 2017 and Nov. 2017.
Mr Agbaran Alao, the Zonal Commandant of the agency, also told newsmen in Osogbo that 26 victims were rescued.
The zone includes Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Kwara states.
He said that NAPTIP remains committed to ending human trafficking in the country, adding that the agency was collaborating with other security outfits.
Alao, however, said the judicial system was a major challenge in the campaign against trafficking, adding that prosecution of traffickers had often been stalled through transfer of judges and slow judicial process.
He called on Nigerians to always report to the agency any activity bordering on trafficking, stating that it was also a crime to employ a child less than 12 years as a domestic servant. (NAN)
