Namibia has issued a malaria alert for its residents and travellers to the northern regions of the country, the Health Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The ministry said that malaria cases had increased across the southern Africa region in recent years.

“Namibia has observed similar increases between in 2015 and 2018 in some regions,’’ the statement said.

According to the statement, malaria cases have been reported in Ohangwena, Kavango West, Oshikoto and Zambezi regions.

The statement said the ministry had sent out teams to spray all malaria regions between September and mid-December 2017.

“A National coverage of 85 per cent was reached during this campaign,’’ the statement said. (Xinhua/NAN)
