President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, on Wednesday dismissed reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Integration Committee for the South West is plotting to impose a gubernatorial candidate on Oyo State Chapter of the Party.
A group of PDP members named Rescue Team 2015 had in a Guardian Newspaper report alleged that the Senate President led integration committee meeting was planning to impose a candidate on the state.
But Senator Mark, in his opening remarks at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, where he met stakeholders from Oyo State PDP, said “We are not here to impose anybody or to choose a flag bearer for you”.
“You are to choose your flag bearer and ensure that PDP wins her elections in Oyo State. That is the agenda handed over to us, “he told the stakeholders.
According to him, “the Committee did not select gubernatorial aspirants that were invited for the meeting. Rather, every stakeholder was invited.
“I didn’t call gubernatorial candidates to my house. The meeting here (Banquet Hall) was opened and all inclusive”, the Senate President said .
He urged stakeholders of Oyo PDP to work together and return the party to power in the interest of all.
“We must all make sacrifices so that we can make progress. This committee alone cannot solve the problems. It requires our working together with you the stakeholders for PDP to win in Oyo State.
“You will choose your flag bearer based on the conviction that the candidate can win the election”, he assured.
