The Police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 32-year-old man, Abubakar Adamu in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a popcorn making machine valued at N30,000.
The defendant, whose address is unknown, is being tried on a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.
The Prosecution Counsel, Asp. Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 5, at about 3:30 p.m. at BBA market, Trade fair Complex in Lagos.
Okuiomose alleged that the defendant stole a popcorn making machine and a plastic drum valued at N30,000, property of one Serifat Alaka, the complainant.
He told the court that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace by stealing the items.
“The defendant was apprehended and handed over to Police for prosecution,” he said.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 287 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadaunsi Adefioye, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Adefioye adjourned the case until Feb.10 for mention. (NAN)
