At least one hundred and eighteen (118) prisoners escaped after gun men raided the Koton Karfe Prison Wednesday evening.
Gun men numbering about 20 invaded the prison and killed a prison security staff just as the gun men blasted their way into the prison.Those living in the neighbourhood reportedly took to their heels as gun shots became intensive. The attack occurred shortly after the evening (Magrib) prayers by Muslims.
The Koton – Karfe prison is located a stone’s throw from the palace of the town’s prominent traditional ruler, the Ohimege Igu of KotonKarfe.
This incident may be one of the biggest challenges newly sworn -in Governor Idris Wada would have to to contend with.
