Judicial cooperation: African Court judges to meet ECOWAS, Nigerian officials

Justice Sylvain Ore, President of the African Court on Human and Peoples Rights, will lead a delegation on a one-week visit to the Economic Community of West African States,(ECOWAS) Court of Justice, Abuja and also meet with key Nigerian officials

A statement from the Africa Court said the visit, which will take place from April 29 to May 4 is a reciprocal visit which follows the inaugural visit by the ECOWAS court of Justice to the Arusha based court in 2018.

According to Ore, the visit will help to enhance judicial cooperation and share experiences between the two courts.

He added that the visit was part of the court’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with regional courts on the continent .

The delegation which includes three judges and senior registry staff is also expected to pay a courtesy call on President Mohammadu Buhari and heads of other parastatals under the judiciary.

The African Court on Human and Peoples Rights was established by virtue of Article 1 of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights on the establishment t of an African Court on Human and peoples rights.

It’s aim was to complement the protective mandate of the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights with a view to enhancing the protection of human rights on the continent.(NAN)
