Out of the 1,659,044 Permanent Voter cards (PVCs) received by the Sokoto state office of the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC)from its national headquarters in Abuja, 1,571,000 have so far been distributed – 88,044 are yet to be collected by voters.
This was disclosed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique at a meeting with religious leaders in Sokoto on Wednesday.
Represented by the Commission’s Administrative Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Zogirma, the REC explained that the distributed number of the PVCs stood at 91 percent.
He added that the Commission had recruited and trained over 20,000 adhoc staff made up of members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) and staff of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
“We have distributed all non-sensitive materials to the 23 local governments and the 3,035 polling units,” he said adding, “All the sensitive materials like the ballot papers and the results sheets have been received and being kept at the Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) in Sokoto.”
The REC called on religious leaders in the state to preach the peace to the electorate before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.
