The Controller of Sokoto State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Mr. Yunusa Aliyu has disclosed that in the preceding year, the Service seized a total of 452 permanent voters and identity cards, including birth certificates from Nigerein nationals.
Briefing news men in Sokoto on Thursday, the Controller gave the breakdown of the documents seized by NIS officers attached to the Tureta checkpoint along Sokoto – Gusau road to include 66 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs); 33 temporary voter cards; 271 new and 69 old national identity cards; one local government identification cards and 12 birth certificates.
Aliyu added that the national documents supposed only to be issued to Nigerians were issued in the Southern part of the country.
According to the Controller, “This is because it is extremely difficult there to differentiate between the Hausas from the northern part of Nigeria and those from the neighbouring Niger Republic.”
..Sokoto HA passes 2015 Appropriation Bill into Law
The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Thursday passed the 2015 Appropriation Bill proposed by Sokoto state government to the tune of N112.5 billion into Law.
The law was passed following the House’s consideration of its Committee on Finance and Appropriation. The report was presented by the Committee’s Vice Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Buda.
Buda said that the House considered the Committee’s report as well as approved the recommendations contained in it.
The Speaker, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar stated the reason for early passage of the Bill into law as enabling the state government to discharge its responsibilities with diligence.
Governor Aliyu Wamakko presented the budget on December 29, 2014 to the State House of Assembly made up of N61.7 billion and N50.8 billion capital and recurrent expenditures, respectively.
