The Federal University of Technology,Akure has again won another first. The Institution led other Universities and placed 1st at the 3rd National Education Innovations Exhibition Competition recently organized by the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. The exhibition was held at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja with the Honourable Minister for Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and other top officials and stakeholders in the education business in attendance. Presenting the trophy to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, Professor Lawrence Akinbogun, leader of the FUTA team to the exhibition, Professor Oluwole Olukunle said the Minister, his team and the panel of assessors were pleased with FUTA’s exhibits at the event.
Professor Olukunle said the yellow Gari produced by FUTA was preferred over the white, because of its fortified Vitamin A and its originality. He also said the assessors commended the cassava peeler and other machines conceptualized, developed and fabricated by FUTA engineers and researchers. He said at the end of the two day event FUTA beat all other Universities to clinch the 1st position and emerged the Champion for the year 2014.
In his response Professor Daramola said the positive feat will further boost the image of the University locally and internationally, attract quality students and spur FUTA engineers and researchers to achieve more success in the areas of the University core competences. “This is positive and we thank God for it. We have a good name that we must always protect and sustain. This feat should be the beginning and should further spur our researchers to show the world that our credo of Technology for self-reliance is not in words only but also in deeds. We must constantly improve on our inventions and perfect them for the industries. “Daramola concluded.
