The Speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Shagali, has resigned.
The resignation came amid alleged plans by some members of the assembly to impeach him.
However, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Mr Tanimu Musa, said the speaker “honourably tendered his resignation” on Tuesday.
He said that former speaker would continue his normal duties as a member of the assembly.
Meanwhile, the House of Assembly has elected Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani as the new Speaker.
The clerk of the House, Bello Zubairu announced that the former Speaker resigned on personal grounds
The House also elected Muktar Isa Hazo, as the new Deputy Speaker.
Zailani, who was sworn-in immediately by Clerk of the House, was the Deputy Speaker of the House until his elevation as new Speaker. NAN
