President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has stressed the need for a harmonious working relationship between and among the three arms of government. Mark said this when he played host to the Speaker and members of Benue State House of Assembly in Abuja today that a smooth working relationship between the executive arm of government and the legislature is sine qua non to meaningful development.
According to Mark, “both the Executive and the legislature have a common agenda to wit; to serve the people and see to their welfare and security. So, there is no reason or need for any friction, where there is disagreement or discrepancy, dialogue remains the best option”.
While stressing the importance of not compromising the independence of the legislature as the watch dog of the executive, Senator Mark added that both arms of government mutually exist under one government, “neither the legislature nor the executive should operate as if they are in opposition”.
He expressed appreciation for the support from the Benue State House of Assembly, the government and people of the State and promised to do all within his powers to bring honour and pride to his people.
“I will always do what is right and legitimate. I will continue to be fair, honest, just and firm in the discharge of my duties’” Senator Mark stated.
Also speaking, Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Senator Ayogu Eze assured that the Government has adopted a twin approach to address menace of roads across the country without exemption.
