A 30-year-old employee, Toriola Olarenwaju, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s phone valued N160,000.
The defendant, who resides in Ashafa area of Agege in Lagos State,was arraigned before Magistrate O.A. Odubajo, on a charge of stealing.
Olarenwaju denied committing the offence and was admitted to a bail of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Odubajo said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and must show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government (LASG).
The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Olasunkanmi Adejumola, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 2, 2021 at Acme Road, Ikeja, Lagos State.
He said that the defendant stole a Tecno Pouvoir cell phone; which was the company’s work tool, property of Jumia Nigeria.
“The Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) monitor installed inside the company captured the defendant when he was perpetuating the act,” the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said that the alleged offence violated Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 9 for mention.(NAN)
