Elections: NUJ admonishes journalists on ethics

#Tracknigeria: Mr Chris Isiguzo, National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has urged journalists to work in accordance with dictates of the profession while covering the forthcoming general elections.

He made the call on Thursday in Katsina at the formal presentation of Diploma and Higher Diploma certificates to graduands of the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ).

Isiguzo said that reporters needed to be guided by the ethics of journalism profession during the coverage of the forthcoming general elections in the country.

Represented by Mr Abdullahi Isma Yamadi, NUJ Zonal Secretary, Zone A (Northwest), the President also advised journalists to be security conscious during the general elections.

“Limit yourselves according to your level, you can only report if you are alive,” he said.

He also said that the union would continue to support state councils in the area of training and retraining to enhance members’ capacity, particularly in the use ICT.

The NUJ state Chairman, Mr Buhari Mamman, said that 24 members of the union successfully completed Diploma and Higher Diploma programmes in Journalism from the state.

He urged the graduands to put into practice what they had learnt.

The programme coordinator in the state, Dr Bishir Ruwan-godiya, congratulated the graduands and urged them to adhere to the ethics of the profession.

Ruwan-godiya, who is now the Special Adviser to Gov. Masari on Higher Education, urged the graduands to continue to pursue their education career, saying the sky was the limit.(NAN)
