Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar and governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko have thrown their weight behind the call for the creation of state police. The duo spoke when the Sultan paid Sallah Homage to the governor at the Presidential Lodge ,Sokoto on Sunday.
Speaking earlier, Sultan Sa’ad observed that the state governments already spend large chunk of money in the provision of vehicles, security gadgets, etc for all arms of security agencies.
“Most state governments, if not all, provide one form of assistance or the other for security agencies. They build or renovate offices for them; they make vehicular provisions and provide all manners of assistance for them. The time for the creation of state police is now.
“We are fully in support of the creation of state police in order to bring an end to the seeming endless security challenge in the country,” the Sultan said.
Also speaking, governor Wamakko observed that state police would reduce the difficulties presently faced by policemen of one state origin, transfered to a state he is not conversant with.
“State governments have continued to suffer so much as a result of the security challenge. Security will be enhanced if state police is created,” Wamakko observed.
