#TrackNigeria The Niger/Kogi/Kwara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says is seized 589 bags of rice worth over N10 million in July.
The Area Comptroller, Abba-Kassim Yusuf disclosed this to news men in Minna Thursday.
According to him, 29 used vehicles with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N23.7 million, 22 bales of secondhand clothings with DPV of N792,000.00 and other items such as sugar, tyres, vegetable oil and foot wears worth N281 million were also seized in the past six months.
He said the seizure of the bags of rice were made in three different instances in July.
“This month, the Command has recorded Three difference seizures of Rice totaling 189 Bags with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N3,213,000.
“A Six tyres truck with REG. NO MNA 691 XV suspected to be carrying 300 Bags of Rice was intercepted with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N5,100,000.
“Also, a Mitsubishi Canter with REG NO XC 112 BDU suspecting to be conveying 100 bags of Rice with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1,700,000) was also arrested within this month”, he said.
Kassim further said that the Command generated N277,994,063.91 in the month of June adding that the amount is above the monthly target of N245,308,308.71 set for it.
He added that the Command had generated N1,709,663,828.08 out of its annual target of N3,051,699,704.51, which represents 56 percent of its annual target.
The Comptroller who stated that the ban on the importation of rice and fairly used vehicles through the border was still in place, warned smugglers that the Command was being positioned to seal off and check all excesses of every smuggling activities.
“The Command will play a positive role to those who are ready to carry out their legitimate businesses, as trade facilitation is one of my cardinal points. The Command is ever ready to support the stakeholders who are ready to follow the laid down rules and regulations of the service.”
