The Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, the Archbishop of Anglican Arch-Diocese of Enugu, has urged Nigerians to continue to pray for their leaders.
“Not just praying for the leadership, we must start saying positive things for the country and its name,” Chukwuma said.
Chukwuma gave this advice on Sunday while delivering his homily at the Chapel of Light, Independent Layout, Enugu.
The cleric urged Nigerians not to be hopeless, as there was still hope to better the nation’s economy and bring back smiles to the faces of Nigerians.
“I sincerely believe that we serve the God of possibility; and in every situation; he intervenes; he brings out the best out of the situation no matter how bad it seems.
“There is the need for divine guidance for our leaders and this is what the fervent prayers of Nigerians can achieve for us. I sincerely believe that this nation will overcome its numerous economic challenges that have created overwhelming poverty today,’’ he said.
Chukwuma, however, urged political office holders to do more to alleviate poverty among the people of their constituencies.
“Politicians and public office holders must connect with their people and find out how best to alleviate poverty among them. They should support all striving economic programmes and trades of their people as well as institute a soft loan skill acquisition programme for them.
“Unemployment and idleness have continued to widen the poverty space in the country. We must engage our people and check idleness, which also breeds crime and other vices,’’ he said.
The cleric also prayed for all political office holders, especially President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy as well as state governors including Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State. (NAN)
