Breaking: Nigeria’s Tijjani Bande emerges new UNGA President

#TrackNigeria: Nigeria’s Representative to the United Nations (UN), Prof. Tijjani Mohammad Bande has been elected as the new President of the Assembly.

The outgoing president, María Espinosa Garcés disclosed on Monday at a joint media briefing with the Foreign Affairs minister, Geoffrey Onyeama at the State House.

The announcement came shortly after her meeting with President Muhammad Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

Before his appointment as Nigeria’s representative to the UN, Bande was former Director-General of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru Jos, Plateau State.

Born at Zagga in Kebbi, he holds a M.A in Political Science from the Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, USA and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto, Canada.

He was the Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, beetwen 2004 and 2009.
