Satisfied with the performance of members of the National Assembly (NASS) from Akwa Ibom state, governor Udom Emmanuel has canceled the principle of zoning, saying that the member should continue.
The governor, who spoke at the Uyo Township stadium during the Constituency briefing and empowerment of 3,000 constituents by the Senator representing Akwa Ibom Northeast, Bassey Albert at the weekend, noted that such extraordinary performance could not have been possible if Albert was not chairman of a sensitive Committee at NASS.
He noted that the achievements of Akwa Ibom lawmakers, especially those from the PDP were made possible because of their experience.
According to the governor, there was need for the State PDP to ensure waivers were granted to NASS members to return “so they can chair sensitive Committees that would put them in a better position to empower the people of the State”.
He pointed out that experience remained the best answer that would ensure members from the State to garner the necessary experience, influence and connections that would guarantee effective and quality representation.
Although Senator Albert was lucky to be given a sensitive Oil and Gas Committee to chair in his first term, governor Emmanuel expressed optimism that the lawmaker would be better positioned when he returns in 2019.
Speaking earlier, Albert who commissioned several projects in water, markets, halls and other facilities across the Senatorial District, promised to continue to affect lives positively in the years to come.
He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the facilities to better their lives, assuring that quality representation would continue as NASS Caucus members have resolved to complement governor Udom Emmanuel’s track record of good governance in the State.
