Boko Haram:Yobe Imposes 24-Hour Curfew On Damaturu

Reports from  Damaturu, the Yobe State capital said a 24-hour curfew has been imposed on the state capital by the state government.

The curfew which takes immediate effect came on the heels of Monday’s attack on the capital by insurgents suspected to be Boko Haram members.

An official statement urged citizens to give maximum cooperation with the security forces.A statement by Abdullahi Bego, media aide to the governor informed the public “that His Excellency Governor Ibrahim has approved the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in Damaturu, the State Capital.

The curfew is effective immediately.

“All Damaturu residents are advised to remain in their homes during the hours of the curfew.

“This decision is taken in consultation with heads of law enforcement agencies in the State as part of measures to enable the security agents, who did a great job yesterday repelling insurgent attacks on the town, to conclude their ongoing assignment.

“His Excellency Governor Gaidam has expressed his appreciation to the residents of the State Capital, and to people all across the State, for their support and cooperation with security agents.

According to the statement “The governor urges people to continue to support the security efforts and to pray to Almighty Allah (SWT) for the return of peace and security.”

It took a  combined  ground and air assaults  by the military to overcome the terrorists who invaded the capital Monday morning unleashing terror.It is believed the curfew will help the on-going mop up operations .

Though most of the insurgents were believed to have been killed by the  massive military bombardments, some of the Boko Haram members  were also suspected to have melted into the city,raising concerns that they could still regroup, if unchecked.
