Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will be the Guest Speaker at the Federal Government College Okigwe, Imo State 35th anniversary homecoming celebrations on Saturday, November 17 at the school’s Pavilion in Okigwe.
Also expected to headline the grand finale of 35th anniversary celebrations of the school are Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha, Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and Minister of Education (State) Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.
A statement released in Lagos weekend by Federal Government College Okigwe Old Students’ Association (FEGOCOOSA) said the former Vice President will be speaking on “mentoring as stimulus for personal growth and organizational development,” which is also the theme of the 35th anniversary celebrations of the school. The D. M. Ukpe biennial lecture series was instituted in honour of the founding Principal of the school.
According to the statement signed by President of FEGOCOOSA, Arc. Amarachukwu Nwokeji, Atiku will be inducted as Grand Patron of Federal Government College Okigwe Old Students’ Association. Also, Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and Minister of Education (State), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike will be conferred with the instruments as National Patrons of the association.
Nwokeji said the alumni will use the opportunity of next Saturday event to launch its N100m endowment fund for infrastructure development of the school. Also some projects including water embarked upon by the alumni will be commissioned on that day.
Federal Government College Okigwe, Imo State was established on October 28, 1977 with 47 students and seven pioneer teachers. The school occupied a temporary site in Orlu for its first two years before relocating to another temporary site in Okigwe before moving to its permanent site in 1983.
