A Coalition has said that all support groups for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, are united, intact and ever passionate in the efforts to ensure landslide victory for the Atiku/Obi ticket in 2019 general elections.
Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba, National Leader of the Coalition of Atiku Support Groups, made up of 22 groups, made the clarification at a news conference held on Monday in Abuja, while reacting to a claim by aggrieved Atiku groups alleging that they were used and dumped.
Olorunmagba said that in politics, support groups were formed by people who came together on their own accord to support a candidate willingly.
“It will be foolhardy for any genuine support group to allege been used and dumped by Abubakar when even the main campaign has not started as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not even lifted ban on campaign.
“A rational thinking person can only allege to have been used and dumped if he/she was assigned specific tasks during the campaign and the assigned tasks were well carried out, and till the entire campaign ended he/she is not compensated in any way for the jobs “well done”.
The national leader said that before the PDP presidential primary, Abubakar always informed leaders of support groups that he would not be able to sponsor support groups before the primary, because the full attention then was on how to get delegates to elect him as PDP flag bearer.
He said that to demonstrate Abubakar and APCO meant business, a Director and Deputy Director were appointed to oversee the affairs of support groups by registering them, maintaining a database, to ensure they were well coordinated and work toward how to carry them along in the main campaign.
“On this note we want reaffirm that Atiku support groups are united, intact and ever passionate in the pursuit of our one-point agenda, and that is to ensure landslide victory for the Atiku/Obi ticket by February 2019.
Olorunmagba called on all those who truly desired the good of the country to continue to support Abubakar with the best of their ability.
The groups include: PDP Grassroots Support Foundation; Abubakar Presidency 2019 (CFAP); Project Atiku 2019; Atiku Liberation Network; Atikulated Movement; PDP Articulated Nigerian Youth Movement; Nigerians Asking for Atiku (NAFA); Presidential Advocacy Movement for Atiku 2019 (PAMA); Atiku Grassroots Ambassadors and PDP Atikus Ushers.
Some aggrieved supporters of Atiku last week told newsmen that they were not happy that the Atiku Presidential Campaign organisation referred to them as mere volunteers.
Chairman of the aggrieved Group, Osaratin Godspower, said they called for the press conference to intimate the world with the happenings in the Atiku Campaign Office.
Godspower in a report said that the era that “some persons would work and some persons would eat had gone”. (NAN)
