Nigerian Students In Uganda Elect New President

A new president has emerged to pilot the affairs of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Uganda (NANSU). He is Hussaini Ewumi of Cavendish University who polled 48 votes to defeat Justice Wua Akile also of Cavendish University, who garnered 6 votes.

The outcome of the election was contained in an extract of the communiqué at the end of the 3rd Convention/Election held on 18th March, 2017 at Cavendish University Kampala emailed to Newsdiaryonline.
On the election, the extract said “At the end of the process all votes cast were counted and the position of National President which was the only contested position has it result declared. Hussaini Ewumi of Cavendish University was declared winner having got a total of 48 votes against his opponent Justice Wua Akile of Cavendish University who polled a total of 6 votes. The declaration of result was made by the electoral committee chairman.”

Being an extract Communiqué of National Association of Nigerian Students in Uganda (NANSU) 3rd Convention/Election held on 18th March, 2017 at Cavendish University Kampala.
Preamble.
The National Association of Nigerian Students in Uganda is the umbrella body of Nigerian students in Uganda, with the core mandate’s of safe guarding the interest of its teeming students, Voice of the voiceless, mediates between the government and students, secure Schorlarship for its members e.t.c it’s activities are binding with a Constitution.
The 3rd Convention/Election of NANSU was well attended by students representative from various campuses of Uganda universities, 11 Citadel of Learning in attendance with the population of 54 accredited delegates.
STATE OF NANS UGANDA.
The state of NANS was presented by the convention/electoral committee chairman Mal Abdulrashid Abdullahi Of Kampala International University Kasanga, who welcomed the delegates and all other stakeholders present. He introduced the host in person of the dean of students affairs Cavendish University, who addressed the audience and declared opened the proceedings. She further reiterated the need for discipline among Nigerian students in their relationship with their various universities and the authorities in Uganda. The representative of Nigerian High Commission also address the audience and gave a very important advice to our colleagues on making Nigeria proud by behaving well to recovered the tainted image of our country which some students have engaged in through their antisocial attitudes.

ACCREDITATION OF DELEGATES
The screening of the delegates began at 2pm in the afternoon with delegates accredited from 11 University across Uganda. They include
Kampala International University Kasanga. 6 delegates
Kampala International University Western Campus. 4 delegates
Kampala University 6 delegates
International Health Science University. 5 delegates
International University of East Africa. 6 delegates
Cavendish University Uganda. 6 delegates
Uganda Christian University. 5 delegates
Busoga University. 5 delegates
Islamic University in Uganda Kibuli 3 delegates
St Lawrence University. 3 delegates
Stafford University Uganda. 5 delegates

The accredited delegates from different universities form 54 delegates in total who cast votes during the election process

ELECTION
The election began at 3pm each of the accredited delegates from their respective universities were call upon to cast their vote. At the end of the process all votes cast were counted and the position of National President which was the only contested position has it result declared. Hussaini Ewumi of Cavendish University was declared winner having got a total of 48 votes against his opponent Justice Wua Akile of Cavendish University who polled a total of 6 votes. The declaration of result was made by the electoral committee chairman.

Security
The process was largely peaceful with the help of four (4) security personal from Kabalagala police division who support the host university securities
