In his first official working day at the presidential villa, Abuja, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the withdrawal of military personnel from check points nationwide.
The directive was given Tuesday during the Weekly security Council meeting at the villa.The meeting lasted over three hours.
Buhari further directed that policemen should instead take control of checkpoints where they exist.
Mr ,Aliyu Ismail, permanent secretary in the Ministry Of Defence, who briefed State House correspondents revealed that Lt Gen Kenneth Minimah ,the Chief of Army Staff was expected to effect the order immediately.
Also the permanent secretary said the service chiefs briefed Buhari about the efforts to move Command Centre to Maiduguri.
Monday’s directive is a clear evidence that Buhari is determined to face security issues squarely.
President Buhari moved into the villa yesterday(Sunday) after the completion of renovation works following the exit of former president Goodluck Jonathan.
