The Joe Ajaero –led faction of Nigeria Labour Congress ,NLC has reaffirmed its commitment to the unity of labour movement in Nigeria.This was made known in a communiqué at the end of its Central Working Committee,CWC session Tuesday in Lagos
According to the Communique, “The CWC in Session reaffirms its commitment to the unity of the Labour Movement in Nigeria based on the principles of trade union independence, fairness, strong internal democracy, equity, solidarity, gender balance and justice.
“ CWC-in-Session reiterates that the leadership of the Congress headed by Comrade Joe Ajaero is committed to genuine dialogue with independent Reconciliation Committee to be constituted by Labour Veterans and Civil Society Leaders with a view of addressing the current challenges facing the Congress.
The Communique further said “The CWC in Session directs the conduct of state council conferences on Thursday 23rd April, 2015. It is expected that the conferences will consolidate structure of the NLC at the state level and also help build the bond of unity and solidarity.
It also endorsed the report of the May Day committee and further directs the observance of May Day in all states and the FCT. The CWC accepted the recommendation to observe the National May Day in Lagos, the communiqué said .
“ As part of the activities for the observance of the 2015 May Day, CWC accepts the recommendation of the May Day Committee to organise a pre-May day protest/rally on the theme: Walk for Good Governance on Tuesday 28th April 2015. The rally is expected to kick off at 9 a.m. from the Lagos Secretariat, 29 Olajuwon Street, Yaba, Lagos. The objective of the protest march is to remind the President-elect, Governors-elect and Legislators of their electoral promises as NLC under Comrade Joe Ajaero will hold the political class accountable.
“The May Day rally and March Past is scheduled to hold on 1st May, 2015 at the National Stadium, Suru Lere, Lagos.
“The CWC in session condemned the alleged arson carried out on the NLC State Council Secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“ The CWC in session further commiserates with the leadership of the Rivers State Council of the NLC over the recent fire disaster at the State Council office. CWC further directs the Deputy President, Comrade Igwe Achese to lead a delegation on fact finding and solidarity mission.
The communiqué signed by Ajaero also congratulated Nigerians on the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections. “We all agree that there has been significant improvement in our electoral process under Prof Attahiru Jega’s leadership of INEC. But we must build on these gains as we look into the future as recommended by the situation report of the Civil Society on the elections.

Labour agreed with General Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to hold electoral offenders accountable just as it expressed “grave concern the continued disappearance of over 200 school girls of Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State abducted from their school by the Boko Haram Militia 365 days ago. We share in the pain of the Nation and in particular the parents of these innocent children who have suffered heavy psychological and physical trauma over the period.
