The Polytechnic of Sokoto State on Saturday conferred Fellowship awards on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal; Governor Aliyu Wamakko and the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar.
Others also awarded with the Fellowship at the Polytechnic’s maiden convocation ceremony included Executive Secretary of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Dr. Mas’udu Kazaure; Rector of Cape Coast Polytechnic, Ghana, Prof. Lawrence Atepor and Chairman, Sokoto State Task Force on Water Supply, Alhaji Namadina Abdulrahman.
The maiden convocation was combined for 2001/2002 and 2012/2013 academic sessions for which a total of 21,062 students graduated and prizes for best graduating students of the ten academic sessions were given.
On behalf of the awardees, Prof. Atepor commended the Polytechnic for the honour. “We promised to be there for the polytechnic and we will always be at its service.”
Wamakko confirmed that the Polytechnic had recorded tremendous developments since the appointment of Prof. Bashir Garba as Rector in 2012 recorded.
“Garba is full of wisdom, energy, honesty and respect for the people of Sokoto state and Nigerians generally. The Institution is also one of the most peaceful Polytechnics in the country due to the diligence and dedication of the management, students and members of the academic board,” he said.
Pledging to be good Ambassadors of the Polytechnic even after they leave office in 2015,
Wamakko also promised to do more in the provision of adequate funds and facilities to the Polytechnic to enable it succeed more.
While commending the state government for the tremendous support, the Chairman of the governing board, Amb. Muhammad Sani also hailed NBTE and TETFUND for their efforts in the development of the institution.
Prof. Garba also commended the state government, TETFUND, NBTE and other agencies for their interventions, policies and programmes towards staff training and infra-structural facilities.
He however called for the provision of more accommodation, personnel and more facilities and structures at the polytechnic.
