Security guard in court for allegedly stealing property worth N1.6m

A 48-year-old security guard, Ibrahim Olawunmi, on Wednesday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing mobile phones worth N1.6 million from a shop.

Olawunmi, who resides at No 16, Morgaji St., Ijeshatedo, Lagos, is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, damage to property, breaking-in and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

 

 

 

 

The prosecutor, Insp. Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some others still at large on Jan. 7, at Pako Shopping Plaza, Ijeshatedo, Lagos.

Ekhueorohan said that the defendant  broke into the shop of Mr Mathew Erhi and stole various mobile phones.

“The defendant, who was employed to guard the Plaza, damaged six padlocks and a safe containing the mobile phones,’’ the prosecutor said.

 

 

 

 

He said the offences contravened Sections 287, 350,309 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing. while Section 309 prescribes seven years jail term for breaking in.

 

 

 

The Magistrate, Mrs M. I Dan-Oni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Feb. 2 for mention. (NAN)
