Four unemployed men on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly managing an unlawful society and conspiracy.
The defendants: Akin Wasiu, 23; Innocent Nwosu, 41; Sheriff Raimi, 40 and Azeez Ogunibi, 20, whose residential addresses were not given, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and managing unlawful society.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Akeem Raji, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with others still at large, on Aug. 15 at 10.00 p. m. in Oregun, Ojota in Lagos.
The prosecution submitted that the defendants were caught while they were initiating new members.
“The police caught the defendants while the remaining boys ran away,” the prosecutor said.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. I. Adelaja granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50, 000, with one surety in like sum.
Adelaja ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged offences violate Sections 41 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
Managing an unlawful society is punishable with seven years jail term, while conspiracy attracts two years imprisonment upon conviction.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 17 for mention (NAN)
