Presidential C’ttee On Floods Set To Build Houses For Affected Victims In 22 States

Aliko DangoteThe Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PCFRR) has finalised plans to construct new houses to replace the ones destroyed by the floods.

The committee, co-chaired by World’s richest black man, Aliko Dangote and former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), in a statement said it has called for bids from reputable companies for building of houses as well as provision of essential amenities in the 22 affected states.

The affected states are Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Rivers and Taraba.

The committee also called for companies to bid for the provision of potable water in the affected states.

According to the statement, the scope of work includes construction of units of 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom flats in the affected states as well as construction of community centres.

The project includes procurement and installation of mobile solar powered packaged water treatment plant and mobile generator powered water treatment plant, procurement and installation of solar powered hand pumps and rehabilitation of existing boreholes.

The 34-man committee, which was inaugurated last October by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is charged with assisting the Federal Government to generate funds to manage the people affected by the floods which ravaged most parts of the country in 2012.

So far, the committee has been able to generate N11.35 billion in pledges and donations.
