Obari Gomba Features At AWF’s April Guest Writer Session

Workshop Group Picture-1Poet, playwright and literary scholar, Obari Gomba brings his cache of angry poems to the nation’s capital on the platform of the Abuja Writers Forum (AWF) on April 27, 2013 when he features at the celebrated Guest Writer Session.
Gomba, who teaches Literature and Creative Writing in the Department of English Studies at the University of Port Harcourt, has published five collections of poems: Pearls of the Mangrove, George Bush and Other Observations, Canticle of a Broken Glass, Length of Eyes and Candlelights. His writings have appeared in Expression, ANA Review, Culture Digest, Crucible, Working Papers, The Muse, Mgbakoigba, The Sun, National Life, Sentinel, 234 Next, New Age, Lagos Review of Books, etc.

Dr Gomba attended both the University of Nigeria and the University of Port Harcourt, and for two consecutive years (1998 and 1999), won the Best Literary Artiste Award of the English Association of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He has been the Editor of The Muse, the journal of creative and critical writing of the Department of English at the University of Nigeria. He is presently on the board of Working Papers: the journal of the Department of English Studies at the University of Port Harcourt, and he facilitated the poetry workshop at the GCLF in 2012.

The April 27 edition of the Guest Writer Session will also include the closing ceremony of the AWF Creative Writing School , with 25 participants of the Introductory Phase maiden edition being awarded their certificate of attendance.To add musical spice to the event, singer-songwriter and guitarist Zainab Sule will be performing as part of her on-going tour of the FCT, alongside guitarist Tokunbo Williams. The April 27 edition of the Guest Writer Session which starts by 4pm ,will take place at its new venue, Nanet Suites, Ekiti House, Kur Mohammed Street, Central Business District, near Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
