Man, 40, in court for allegedly assaulting police officers

A 40-year-old man, Peter Ogunleye, on Friday appeared before a Ijede Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting police officers on duty.

Ogunleye, whose address was not provided, is facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy and assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Aminu Isaac, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 6, at 1 p.m. at Ikorodu Garage.

Isaac alleged that defendant unlawfully assaulted Sgt. Olatunde Adeyera while performing his lawful duty and also tore a his uniform.

“On the same time and date the defendant also assaulted Sgt. Alliu Nurudeen,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the defendant also aided 13 suspected cult memebers to escape by opening the door and boot of the bus that was to convey them  to the station.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 412, 174, 105(1) and 339(7) of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Magistrate, A. Oshodi Makanju admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until April 4. (NAN)
