The World Food Programme (WFP) is ready to support Federal, States and Local Governments to manage and achieve food security and nutrition in the country.

The Country Director of WFP, Ms Myrta Kaulard, made this known at the 2018 National Agricultural Show in Tudun Wada, Nasarawa State, on Wednesday.

Kaulard, represented by Ms Helen Bugari, the Head of Programmes of WFP, said that the support would be given to achieve the set targets.

She said that WFP was also working with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and other UN agencies to enhance self-reliance, resilience, income generating activities, livelihood and support for smallholder farmers.

National growth LS

According to her, WFP has responded to immediate food needs, reaching more than one million people each month in the North East – Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

“WFP working in more than 80 countries across the world, feeding people both in conflict and disasters and laying foundation for a better future.

“WFP Nigeria has now started a transition journey to address development needs.

“This is in full alliance with the Economic Recovery and Development Plan and Buhari’s plan.

“Everyone has a role to play to achieve zero hunger but institutions and people need to work together to reach this goal.

“We need to establish zero hunger partnerships, share knowledge and resources, develop strategies and discover new opportunities and contribute to fight hunger worldwide.

“WFP is ready to support federal, states and local actors to gain strengthened capacity to manage food security and nutrition programmes in line with national target in short, medium and long terms,’’ Kaulard said. (NAN)
