Teenager in court for allegedly breaking car windscreen

A 19-year-old man, Alex Taba, was on Monday docked in a Grade I Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly breaking a car windscreen intentionally.

The police charged Taba, who lives at Kurudu Army Housing Estate, 3rd Gate, Abuja with mischief.

The Prosecution Counsel, Ade Adeyanju told the court that the matter was reported at the Maitama Police station by the complainant, Enemari Mathew who lives in Mararaba, Nassarawa State.

Adeyanju said that while the complainant was driving his Toyota Corolla car with registration number KWL 323 RQ as a commercial taxi, the defendant stopped him at Wuse II for a drop.

He explained that after stopping, he decided to move on after failing to reach a price agreement, but the defendant intentionally hit his car windscreen valued N30,000 and broke it.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 327 of the Penal Code.

He said that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime, but pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Mr Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Maiwada ordered that the defendant should make a deposit of N40, 000.

He said that the surety must provide means of identification, deposit utility bills and statement of bank account.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 28 for mention. (NAN)
