The new President of Sierra Leone,  Rtd Brig.  Julius Maada Bio, has set up a Cross-Party Committee to address incidents of political violence and intimidation across the country.

A statement from the office of the President made this known on Saturday in Freetown.

Bio initiated the committee following a meeting with a delegation from the All People’s Congress (APC) led by Dr Samura Kamara on concerns of political violence and intimidation.

According  to the statement, the committee will comprise the leadership of both Sierra Leone People‘s Party and All People’s Congress Party.

“His Excellency President Julius Manda Bio has also instructed the cross-party committee to work in concert with the Sierra Leone Police to investigate all complaints of violence and intimidation and to ensure that the law is applied with full force against anyone found culpable.”

It also  stated that  contrary to the frivolous allegations making the rounds on social media, “so far, no warrant of arrest is known to have been issued against any government officers.

“At the same time, all persons are strictly warned that their conduct should always be in conformity with the maintenance of good governance and law and order in the country.”(NAN)
