The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) command in the FCT  says proper weapon handling by security operatives is very crucial to ensuring national security.

The FCT commandant, Olusola Odumosu said this on Monday during the second batch arms training commencement of 115 personnel of the Command in Abuja.

He said that continuous arms training was necessitated by the need to ensure that officers and men are well equipped and combat-ready for security tasks.

“Your knowledge of weapons handling is very instrumental to achieving the objectives of keeping the FCT safe and you cannot afford to take this training with levity,” he said.

He advised the trainees to take advantage of the training to enable them to contribute their quota to the growth of the Corps.

“You must maintain a high level of discipline and you must pay attention to every detail in the training curriculum because I am counting on you to join forces with others to contribute your quota to the fulfillment of the Corps’ mandate,” he said.

Odumosu maintained that the Corps remains dedicated to carrying out 24-hours surveillance and patrol in order to sustain government’s efforts in providing dividends of democracy for Nigerians.

“For us in the FCT Command, we are determined to continue protecting critical infrastructure and to flush out vandals and miscreants disturbing the peace of the seat of power,” he charged.

Odumosu advised the trainees that diligence, competence and commitment to service remained paramount requirement to ensuring adequate security.

“All hands must be on deck to confront insecurity and rid the nation of vandalism and other associated crimes,” he said.

The commandant applauded FCT residents for their continuous cooperation in providing useful security information.

He however, demanded for more support especially in the area of intelligence and credible information that would assist in combating crime and criminality in the FCT (NAN)
