The Police Service Commission has announced the promotion of some deserving officers.A statement today said “the Commission deliberated and approved the promotion of Mr. Sam A. Okaula from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Geoffrey Okafor from the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police as recommended by the Inspector General of Police. Also promoted were a Superintendent to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police and 16 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendents of Police.”
In related development the commission said it has looked in 71 disciplinary cases after which appropriate measures have been taken against erring officers.In the same statement today, it said “Similarly, for conducts unbecoming of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Rebecca Okereke and ASP Gabriel Fakiyesi were dismissed, while DCP Peter B. Ogunyanwo, was reduced in rank to an Assistant Commissioner of Police, and CSPs John S. Nwele and Chukwu Okafor to Superintendents of Police. In all, 71 disciplinary cases were considered by the Commission and various disciplinary measures ranging from reprimand to dismissal were awarded.

The Police Service Commission at its 27th Plenary Meeting held on the 27th and 28th June, 2012 considered a wide range of issues aimed at the smooth administration of the Nigeria Police Force and took far-reaching measures in its bid to reposition the Force.
2. The Commission deliberated and approved the promotion of Mr. Sam A. Okaula from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Geoffrey Okafor from the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police as recommended by the Inspector General of Police. Also promoted were a Superintendent to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police and 16 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendents of Police.
3. Similarly, for conducts unbecoming of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Rebecca Okereke and ASP Gabriel Fakiyesi were dismissed, while DCP Peter B. 4. The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Mr. Parry B. O. Osayande, DIG (Rtd) CFR, OFR, NPM, mni, congratulated the newly promoted Officers and Men. While asking them to redouble their efforts in their new ranks, he emphasized that the Commission will continue to elevate hard working and deserving Officers and Men to new ranks, while those whose acts are unbecoming of officers of the Force would be sanctioned by the Commission.
