The Niger police command has arrested two suspects over allegedly culpable homicides in different parts of the state.

Police spokesman in the state, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, made the disclosure in a statement in Minna on Thursday.

Abiodun said on Dec. 29 last year at about 1030 hours, based on credible information, Police operatives attached to Chanchaga Division arrested one Abubakar Mohammed Buba of Gidan Madara area of Chanchaga local government area (LGA).

He explained that the suspect was arrested for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide of his father, Alhaji Mohammed Buba, aged 52 years.

The deceased was allegedly attacked and stabbed to death in his residence at Korokpan, Paikoro LGA, on 13th October, 2021.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have conspired with one Aliyu Mohammed of Chanchaga, now at large and killed his father.

He later led Police operatives to Tagwai-Dam where the body of the deceased was dumped after being cut into pieces and packed in a sack.

He confessed further to have contracted the said Aliyu for a sum of N110,000 out which  he paid a deposit of N50,000 and later paid the balance of N60,000 after selling some of the deceased’s properties to raise the balance.

He claimed to have committed the act in order to quickly inherit his father’s properties.

Effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing Aliyu Mohammed while the case is under investigation at the SCID Minna. Police said the suspect will be arraigned in court for prosecution immediately after investigation.

Similarly, in December last last year, at about 2030 hours, Police operatives attached to GRA Division arrested one Stephen Jiya of Niger motel area of Suleja.

The suspect was arrested at Darusalam, Minna for the offence of culpable homicide of his mother; one Mrs Comfort Jiya of Darusalam, Minna.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and claimed that on Dec. 19, he had a misunderstanding with his wife in his home in Suleja which attracted their neighbours and the issue was laid to rest and he left for work.

On his return from work, he discovered that his wife had left home for Minna without his consent.

He confessed further that he left Suleja and went to Minna on Dec. 20 with a plastic bottle of premium motor spirit (fuel) and went to the family house where he met his mother cooking in the kitchen.

The suspect sprayed the deceased with fuel and set her ablaze, alleging that the woman usually meddles into his marital affairs.

He blamed his mother for his wife’s disappearance from home.

The outcry of the woman and the raging flame attracted neighbours who rushed her to the General hospital, Minna, and she was later referred to another medical facility where she later gave up the ghost.

The police spokesman said already the suspect has been arraigned in court for prosecution. (NAN)
