The National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance PPA Chief Sam Nkire has called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to wade into the on-going dispute between Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State and his former boss Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State. Chief
Nkire said he was making this call as a senior citizen of Abia State as well as a friend to both Governor Theodore Orji and Dr Orji Kalu. He added that as two prominent members who had won elections for PDP in the past, it was his opinion that the party stood in a better position to make peace for the two leaders. Nkire however warned that Abia State might slip into political or civil disorder if other political leaders, especially PDP members did not take action to reach amicable settlement between the two.
The PPA National Chairman said he as a friend of the two tried to wade into the matter before the 2011 governorship election without success. According to Chief Nkire, whatever happened before the election between his party PPA, to which Dr Kalu was BOT Chairman and Governor T.A. Orji should be consigned to history in order to move the state forward. He further called on religious leaders, traditional rulers as well as opinion leaders in Abia State not stand idly-by and watch the state burn.
Meanwhile, Chief Sam Nkire has congratulated Mr Femi Adesina over his recent election as President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE). A veteran journalist himself, Nkire hoped Adesina’s election would help inject intergrity into the body of the nation’s watchdog. According to the PPA boss, intergrity and good conduct were the most important ingredients lacking in most professional bodies in Nigeria. He advised the new President of NGE not to disappoint his admirers by carrying on in the spirit of “business as usual”.
