Delta state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa on Friday disbursed working capital of N115 million to aid artisans in the 25 local government areas of the state, to boost their businesses.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of Delta State Micro Small and medium Enterprises Development Agency (DSMSMEDA), Mrs Shimite Bello in Asaba.
He said the beneficiaries included; members of welders association, barbers association, and hair dressers’ association.
Bello added that barbers association and hair dressers had 750 beneficiaries each, while welders and fashion designers had 300 and 500 beneficiaries, respectively.
She disclosed that out of the 2,300 beneficiaries, 1,700 received their disbursement a week ago, adding that the remaining beneficiaries would be attended to in the next few days.
“You would recall that this administration within the past three years and half, have been doing a lot of empowerment, and only today, the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa decided to extend the empowerment programmes to artisans in the state.
“Currently, he is doing what we call “Grant in-Aid to artisans, which include welders association, hair dressers association, fashion designers and barbers association.
“We have taken care of different groups in the state, particularly transporters and butchers association. Last week, we started dealing with the welders association and hair dressers,” she said.
