The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) male team on Sunday continued their impressive display at the on-going Nigeria Volleyball League by beating Sunshine Spikers of Akure 3-2.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the league which began at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Sunday is expected to end on Dec. 21.

After two hours and thirty minutes of intense rounds, NSCDC beat Sunshine Spikers 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 28-26, 21-25 and 15-9).

Speaking after the match, Head Coach of NSCDC, Samuel Ajayi, said his team was learning by the day.

National growth LS

“We will go back and amend our mistakes,’’ he said.

He noted that one of his players was issued a red card for an innocuous human error and appealed that officiating be done with human face.

“This is the second time we are getting the red card in similar manner in the league. For a team to be getting the red card repeatedly is uncalled for. It does not allow the sport to grow.

“If a player commits a human error and is punished for it, it is understandable.

“However, when a person officiating a game commits human error, who sanctions him or her?’’ he queried.

NAN reports that the match was disrupted twice. First was a tango between the NSCDC and the officiating team over the issuance of a red card, while the second was power outage.

Organisers had to use generators to light up the indoor sports hall of the stadium where the match took place for the teams to play the third to the fifth set of the game.

NSCDC will face the Nigeria Customs Service on Monday, while Sunshine Spikers will engage the Nigeria Correctional Service.

In matches played on Sunday in the female category, Kada Emerald lost to Benue Queens 2-3 (25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 17-25, 12-15).

The Nigeria Customs Service beat the Nigeria Police Force 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, and 25-14) to maintain their unbeaten run.

A total of 17 teams, 10 male and seven female, are participating in the league. (NAN)
