The President of Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA), Ladan Bosso, on Saturday urged the management of the Niger Tornadoes FC to compensate the club’s sacked coach, Abubakar Bala.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the management of the club had in December prior to the team’s pre-season preparations, sacked the coach.
However, in a reaction to Bala’s removal, the leadership of the coaching body in a statement in Lagos frowned at Bala’s sack without commensurate compensation.
Bosso said the coach had earned the team decent campaign last season with a narrow loss at the AITEO Cup final to Akwa United on penalties.
He said Bala also guided the modest team to 11th place finish on log at the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Season.
Bosso said the club had infringed on Bala’s right by sacking him unceremoniously.
“We are totally disappointed over the disengagement of Bala in spite of having one-year left on his contract with unpaid entitlements.
“The association recalled that coach Bala led the team to the finals of the prestigious AITEO Cup last season.
“The team just narrowly missed out on penalties to Akwa United, but Bala was eased out of the coaching job last month.
“We as the apex coaching body are fully aware of the custom of hiring and firing of coaches.
“We hold no grudges against the decision of the management, but an injury to one is an injury to all, hence our demand for his disengagement entitlements to be settled.
“The NCFA is appealing to the newly constituted management of Niger Tornadoes to do the needful as regards to compensating the dismissed coach on time to avoid a needless cold war with it.
“The coaches association further accepted to resolve the knotty matter, which remains the best and acceptable approach.
“We are hereby waiting for the club’s cooperation and the full understanding of the body in charge of the league (LMC).’’ (NAN)
