The Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association Nigeria (CoSFAN), on Tuesday, 11 December, in Abuja inaugurated its new Executive Committee, as italso held its Annual General Meeting and End-of-Year Workshop.
New officers sworn-in by Chief (Mrs) Victoria Olufunmilayo Awomola, SAN were:Dr Abiola Ruth Adimula, president; Dr Ojochide Cyril Akagwu, vice president; Mr Chidi Ezegwu (general secretary); Mr Taiwo Obe (publicity secretary), Mr Aminu Ado (treasurer/financial secretary) and Pastor Samuel Olusola Oyegunle(North-Central regional coordinator).
Adimula, a lawyer and lecturer at the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies,University of Ilorin, Kwara State, was previously the association’ssecretary-general while Ado, a chartered accountant with a petrochemicalscompany in Lagos, retained his position.
At least 2,000 Nigerians have, since 1959, benefitted from the scholarships andfellowships awarded by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission, UK. Formallyregistered in 2012, as a non-profit organisation, CoSFAN’s core objective is“to promote and advance education and the welfare of Nigerians, especially through award of scholarships.” It is supported by the British Council.
The new executives are expected to serve for two years, renewable for anothertwo years.
