Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has commiserated with the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Sardaunan Katsina, Alhaji Ibrahim Commassie even as he condemned last night’s fatal attack on his Katsina GRA residence by unidentified gunmen, which led to the death of a police officer with another one seriously injured.

In a press statement signed by his media aide, Abdu Labaran Malumfashi, Governor Masari described the attack as dastardly, callous and cowardly, vowing that all those behind  this targeted attack would be fished out and punished accordingly.

Commiserating with the former IGP and chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on behalf of the government and people of Katsina State, Governor Masari lamented that targeting a respected elder statesman who has served, and is still serving the nation with distinction with criminal intentions could only be the product of evil minds, the kind that the society would be better off without.

He charged the security agencies to spare no efforts in flushing out the perpetrators of this heinous crime and their sponsors, assuring that anybody found complicit in the crime would be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law without regard to who they may be.

The Governor declared that his administration would not tolerate the violent breach of the peace that has been achieved in the state with the advent the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

He stated that both the Federal and Katsina State Governments would do everything possible to not only ensure the capture of the attackers, but also prevent the recurrence of such heinous crime in the state.

The Governor disclosed that having zero tolerance for any form of crime, and in fulfilment of the campaign promise made by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Federal Government has concluded plans to upgrade the Military Brigade in Sokoto into a Division under the command of a Major General, and the Battalions in Katsina and Zamfara to the status of Brigades, each under the charge of a Brigadier General.

This measure and other proactive security initiatives taken by the Federal Government, according to him, are aimed at ensuring that security for life and property  is adequately provided in the country.

He also appealed to the people to, not only remain security conscious, but to always cooperate with security operatives by providing useful information on activities that look suspect, saying that security is the responsibility of everyone.

Governor Masari condoled the former IGP and the family of the deceased Police officer, and prayed to Allah to forgive him his shortcomings.

He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the officer who sustained injuries.
